We are a group of men with varied backgrounds: cook, tech support, teacher, law enforcement, attorney, physician, engineer, to mention a few.
Some of us are new to barbershop, while others have been singing for as many as 34 years. Some have no prior experience singing, while others sang in church choirs, high school, college or other music groups. Some became interested after hearing a performance by a barbershop chorus or quarets
Why do we sing? We love the sound that we can make together. We enjoy the public service, like singing to children in hospitals and for cities Veteran’s and Memorial day events.
But most of all, we do it for the friendships we make. As the words to one of our songs say:

Don (Baritone)
Lives in Tamarac, FL / Retired Engineer / A Barbershopper for 45 years and a Miamian for 7; Don
sang in a choral group at his synagogue and high school. A close friend from his high school singing
days invited him into his first Barbershop experience, and he became a member of the Cherry Hill Pine
Barons, Big Apple Chorus, and Brothers In Harmony. The Miamians got lucky enough to have him
here ever since he decided to move to South Florida. Don loves singing in harmony and the fellowship
that develops within it. He would tell you that: “If you enjoy singing, you owe it to yourself to give us
a try.”
Scott (Baritone)
Lives in Margate, FL / Lanscape Irrigation Tech / A Barbershopper for 16 years and a Miamian for
12 / Music Medic; Scott sang in a Church Choir and then started in Barbershop simply because a
friend invited him to a rehearsal. He loves the fact that the Miamians provide a Chorus or Quartets for
many different occasions, whether they be public or private events. Scott would tell you that: “As a
member of the Miamians, you learn to sing better while gaining friends!”
David (Baritone)
Lives in Boca Raton, FL / Physician / A Barbershopper for a year-and-a-half who just became a
Miamian; David was originally invited to a Barbershop chorus by a member of “Men of
Independence” in Independence, Ohio. He is not only a member of The Miamians now, but also
remains a member of the Men of Independence Chorus as well as the Palm Beach Coastmen Chorus.
David loves making fun harmonic music and says: “Come as a guest and see/hear how great you can
sound!”
Gene (Lead)
From Coconut Creek, FL / A Metallurgical Engineer/Massage Therapist / A Barbershopper for
78 years and a Miamian for 35; Gene’s been singing since the 8th Grade. He attended a Barbershop
show in 1956 and has been hooked ever since. He has been a part of 5 different choruses including the
world-famous Vocal Majority of Dallas, TX. His love of the art form comes from the harmonies of the
music style and the outstanding camaraderie that develops everywhere. His ageless wisdom leads him
to conclude that: “A visit to The Miamians will open a musical portal which will enrich your life
forevermore!”
Enrique (Bass)
Lives in Hialeah Gardens, FL / Semi-retired Engineer / A Barbershopper and Miamian for 13 years;
/ Music Medic; Enrique sang choral music during his school years. He ended up singing Barbershop
while looking for a choral program for his daughter. What he ended up finding was The Miamians for
himself. He loves singing chords and loves the brotherhood that he has found in the Miamians. His
best advice to you: “Be part of something special that touches the heart of the community.” By the
way, Enrique finally did find a women’s chorus for his daughter.
Bruce (Baritone)
Lives in Sebring, FL / Industrial Elecrical Tech (Retired) / A Barbershopper for 46 years and a
Miamian for 12; Bruce got into Barbershop when a bowling buddy of his invited him to a show. He
ended up going to that chapter’s rehearsal the following week, and never left. In addition to The
Miamians, Bruce has been part of The Racing City Chorus in the Northeastern District, as well as
choruses in Sunrise, Sebring, and Winter Haven, Florida. In 2013, Bruce took on a leadership role in
the Barbershop Harmony Society’s “Sunshine District” as Director of Conventions. Thereafter, he was
promoted to Events VP, then Exec VP, and now Bruce is serving as District President. He loves the
Competitions and the friends that one makes along the way. Bruce wraps it all up saying: "While I
came for the music I stayed for the friendships!'
Ernie (Tenor)
Lives in Miami, FL / Retired Attorney / A Barbershopper and a Miamian for 17 years / Music
Medic; The first singing that Ernie ever did was at his Catholic grade school in Hialeah, FL, where the
finest singing instruction that he was ever able to get was when Sister Miriam would scream at him:
“Stop yelling, Ernesto!” Years later, he was hauled to his first Barbershop rehearsal in a police cruiser
by his town’s police chief, who was his friend, and had already become a Barbershopper. Ernie loves
the fun of rehearsals, the even more fun of performances, and is most inspired by singing to
hospitalized children as part of The Miamians’ Music Medics program. He sums up his feelings about
Barbershop in this way: “This hobby changes your life for the better. It makes you happier, healthier
and a better Human Being. You will always be proud to identify yourself as ‘a Barbershopper.’”
Steve (Baritone)
Lives in Coral Springs, FL / Information Technology Professional / Has been singing Barbershop for
35 years, a Miamian for 8 / Music Medic; Steve sang some Barbershop in his High School Chorus
and was recruited to the Miamians by a friend. Steve loves the Harmony and camaraderie of
Barbershop (and has perfect pitch, by the way). He urges: “Just come visit us sometime. We’re very
friendly and no pressure!”
Rich (Tenor)
Lives in Boynton Beach, FL / IT Systems Professional for the Florida State Courts / A
Barbershopper for 6 years and a Miamian for 4 / Music Medic; Rich grew up playing instrumental
music through his college years. He says he’s been an on-and-off singer in his church choir, but before
he started singing Barbershop, organized music was largely absent from his life for about 25 years.
Rich reflects: “I love the harmony and the camaraderie here,” and urges: “Come on by and try it.
Don’t worry if you don’t read music well (or at all) – we have learning tracks to help you learn your
part. We come from all walks of life, and have differing levels of experience - but when you put it all
together, it just works, and sounds great. Once you experience what it’s like to really ‘ring some
chords,’ as we say, you’ll be hooked.”
Randy (Baritone)
Lives in Palm Beach Gardens, FL / IT Professional / A 14-year Barbershhopper and 10 year
Miamian; / Music Medic; Randy started singing in his Church Choir and then someone from that
choir invited him to a Barbershop rehearsal. Also, his wife sang Barbershop with a South Florida
women’s chorus in the 1990s. Randy has been with the Palm Beach Coastmen, and THX, in addition
to the Miamians. He gets a kick out of Ringing chords and from the incredible Barbershop community.
Randy hopes that you’ll come visit the Miamians and assures you that: “You'll be glad you did.”
Dom (Bass)
Lives in Coconut Grove, FL / Accountant; Owner of Tax Accounting Business / A Barbershopper
and a Miamian for 34 years; Dominic was invited to a Miamians chapter show and got hooked on the
Harmony. He loves ringing chords and singing with friends. Dom puts it this way: “Barbershop gave
me skills, confidence and lifelong friends all over the world. Give it a shot. It could do that for you
too.”
Roberto (Lead)
Lives in Miramar, FL / Retired HVAC Mechanical Engineer / A Barbershopper and a Miamian for
27 years / Music Medic; Roberto says he had been singing in a church choir that was suddenly shut
down, and shortly thereafter, saw a flyer that contained an ad offering “free singing lessons” that The
Miamians were making available to the community at the time. He loves ringing chords and the
camarederie with other singers. Roberto says that: “If you love singing, this group will polish your
craft. Making chords ‘ring’ will be a new experience that you’ll absolutely love.”
Eddie (Miamians Chorus Co-Director)
Lives in West Gables, FL / Specialty Contractor in the Construction Trades / A Barbershopper for 20
years and a Miamian for 18; Eddie attended some of Miami’s fine Arts Academies from Grade School
through High School. He met the Miamians’ former Director, Gene Cokeroft, during a Youth Harmony
Workshop put on by the Miamians in the early 2000’s. Eddie has sung, not only with the Miamians,
but also with other Barbershop Choruses like the Sunshine Chordsmen and THX, as well as with
several renown quartets, competing on the Barbershop Harmony Society’s “International Stage” at their
annual International Quartet Competitions. The summation of his experiences leads Eddie to reflect:
“It doesn’t cost you much; you’ll make lasting friendships; and, you’ll find a hobby that changes your
life!”
Steve (Bass)
Lives in St. Augustine, FL / Retired Attorney / A Barbershopper for 20 years and Miamian for 12 /
Music Medic; Steve sang in his High School’s Glee Club (while also being an All-State Basketball and
Football player) and, to date, is still the only guy in his hometown to have achieved that honor in both
sports. Steve has always loved singing and was introduced to Barbershop in that very school. He got
back into it about 20 years ago, when his father-in-law’s neighbor asked him to a rehearsal. “I love the
sound of 4-part harmony,” Steve reflects..., then he urges: “I would strongly recommend to anyone who
enjoys the sound of a human voice, unaccompanied by musical instruments, to come to a Barbershop
rehearsal and experience the joy of four-part harmony.” He loves the people involved in this hobby:
“They are really the best people around. If you’re looking for a group of great friends, go sing some
Barbershop.”
Wes (Lead)
Lives in Boynton Beach, FL / He did Marketing Research, was a College Professor and was even a
Disc Jockey / A Barbershopper for 9 years and a Miamian since 2021 / Music Medic; Wes started
singing Barbershop after he saw a Quartet that came to his condo and then recruited him to join. In
addition to the Miamians, he still sings with the Cherry Hill Pine Barons and the Palm Beach
Coastmen, with which he is also a Board member. Wes loves the support that Barbershoppers give one
another. He says: “Come in, relax, sing and make new friends!
Zach (Baritone)
Lives in Boca Raton, FL / Pediatric Cardiologist / A Barbershopper and Miamian for 12 years /
Music Medic; Zach sang in various Boys’ choirs as a youth and then in an A-cappella group in college.
He got involved in this artform after he met a Barbershopper at a Christmas party - and the guy taught
him a “tag,” (the big final musical “Conclusion” to one of our songs). He loves the “sheer joy” of
“ringing chords,” especially in a quartet. Zach would like everyone to know that: “All levels are
welcome. The Miamians are a joyful supportive group with absolutely amazing directors who support
your growth as a singer, as an ensemble member, and as a musician.”
Rich (Lead)
Lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL / Retired Firefighter / A 30-year Barbershopper and a 12-year Miamian /
Music Medic; Rich originally joined a Barbershop Chorus in New Jersey. He’s still a member of
various choruses there, including The Oceanaires and The Deans of Harmony. Rich loves ringing
chords and he simply advises: “Just check us out.”
Joel (Bass)
Lives in Pembroke Pines, FL / Retired Businessman, CEO of Display Unlimited / A Barbershopper
and Miamian for 17 years / Music Medic; Joel loves harmony. He had attended a Miamians concert
at the Dade County Auditorium in 1967 and, years later, he joined them after his retirement. The
camaraderie is the other thing that Joel loves. He says: “If you love singing, come visit with us.”
Chris (Lead)
Lives in Plantation, FL / Works in the Financial Services Industry / A Barbershopper and Miamian
since 2018 / Music Medic; Chris sang in an A-Cappella group in college. He obtained his Bachelor
of Music Degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and sang professionally for about 10 years.
He’s a Member of the Actors Equity Association. Chris was introduced to Barbershop through
members of his A-Cappella group’s alumni network. What he loves most about Barbershop is that it’s
a hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, regardless of background or experience. Chris
asserts that: “If you enjoy making music with others, you will be sure to fit in and be welcomed.”
Mike (Bass)
Lives in Delray Beach, FL / Telephone Systems & Telecommunications Consultant & Sales (Retired)
/ Started Barbershopping in 1981, with a break here and there; and a Miamian since 2020 / Music /
Medic; Mike sang in a High School chorus and also in the Classical Choral Society. He says he heard
Barbershop music at one point and decided he’d like to try it. He most likes the commitment of like-
minded men who want to perfect their craft. Mike’s recomendation: “Come to a performance and talk
to the guys. Get the experience that is unique to the Miamians and Barbershop.”
Bruce (Lead)
Lives in Miami, FL / Worked in Law Enforcement for 32 years / A Barbershopper and a Miamian for
16 years; Bruce sang in his High School & College choruses. He came to the Miamians with another
member who invited and sponsored him. Bruce has been the Lead voice in several quartets: 4th &
Goal & ULTRASOUND QUARTET. He loves the Friendship & Camaraderie “like you get in sports
teams,” and urges: “If you enjoy singing and making new friends, give us a try!
Alex (Miamians Chorus Co-Director)
Lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL / VP of Technology in the financial sector / A Barbershopper for 34 years
and a Miamian for 12; Alex will tell you right up front: “All my singing training has been learned and
provided through Barbershopping.” “My brother and I grew up watching the Music Man on VHS and
in 1990, he and my mother happened to see a quartet singing in downtown Fort Lauderdale for a
“historical days” event. “My brother, who was then 12 years old, asked them to sing ‘Lida Rose,’ as
sung in the Music Man. We ended up attending the Ft. Lauderdale Sunshine Chordsmen’s rehearsal the
following week. That was 34 years ago!” “What I love most about Barbershop,” says Alex: “is the
life-changing relationships forged through music. Try it one time and you won’t be sorry you did!”
Jake (Tenor)
Lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL / Currently a Student / In his First Year as a Miamian; As the 9-year-old
son of our Chorus Director, Alex, Jake has been singing Barbershop for literally half of his life. He
loves being a full-fledged Miamian now, having passed his audition with flying colors and even
competed in a District Chorus Competition. Jake says he’s having fun and making friends!
Roger (Lead)
Lives in Stuart, FL / Computer Programmer - Farmer - Professional Forrester / A 48-year
Barbershopper; Roger originally sang in a Vocal Jazz ensemble as well as high school and college A-
capella groups. He came to sing Barbershop when a friend invited him to a Goldnote Chorus rehearsal
in Fresno, California. Roger loves ringing chords and singing Harmony. He says: “Come, enjoy the
fellowship and sing great music!”
Glenn (Baritone)
Lives in Pembroke Pines FL / A Defense Analyst for the US Army / A Barbershopper and a Miamian
for 8 years; Prior to his Barbershop experience, Glenn sang with the Arbiter Manner Chorus & Yale
Russian Chorus in New Haven, CT. He is a “Legacy Barbershopper,” as his dad started in this
wonderful hobby in 1959. Glenn loves the fraternity, and “making people smile.” Just as you would
expect from a military guy, Glenn lays it out in a very organized fashion, just like this: “If you show up
on site: a) You’ll sing better; b) You’ll make a lot of life-long friends; and, c) You’ll have a lot of
fun!”
Steve (Lead)
Lives in Plantation, FL / Retired from Merchandising & Sales of Wine & Spirits / A Barbershopper
for 9 years and a Miamian for 3 1/2 years; Steve confesses that his ENT doctor was the guy who heard
him singing while at the doctor’s office, and invited him to sing Barbershop. He ended up singing with
The Harbormen, on Long Island, NY. Steve most values the companionship of fellow members “and
the sound!” “In all honesty,” Steve says: “I would say you have nothing to lose. Try it a few times
and learn something simple to see if it's for you.”
Tim (Bass)
Lives in Pembroke Pines, FL / Veteran of the U.S. Army / A Barbershopper for 13 years and a
Miamian for 12 / Music Medic; Tim’s father was a 60-year Barbershopper, but in spite of that, Tim
says he never sang a note until he was 55 years old. He loves the unique sound and good fellowship
that are engrained into Barbershop. Tim’s challenge?: “Give it a try, you’ll be surprised.”
Jim (Bass)
Lives in Palmetto Bay, FL / Retired Teacher / An 18 year Barbershopper and Miamian / Music
Medic; Originally, Jim started singing in his Church Choir. He became a Miamian when he answered
one of their ads in a newspaper. Jim loves all the singing and the friendships. He advises: “Take a look
at some of the videos of rehearsal activities – then come and try them in person!”
Arne (Lead)
Lives in Coconut Grove, FL / Bank Trust and Investment Professional / A 27-year Barbershopper
and Miamian / Music Medic; First sang in church choirs and joined the Miamians when they offered
free voice lessons. Arne loves to entertain audiences with good music. He jokes: “Do you sing in the
shower? We will make you a Caruso! We support and encourage all levels.”
Bill (Bass)
Lives in Margate, FL / Retired Cook / A Barbershopper for 23 years and a Miamian for 12 / Music
Medic; Bill has been singing in Church Choirs for more than 50 years and says he became a
Barbershopper after a church choir member that he knew invited him to a rehearsal. Bill simply loves
the musical Harmony. His challenge to all is: “Can you carry a tune? Just come join us for ONE
rehearsal! The rest is up to you.”
Mike, (Baritone)
Lives in North Miami, FL / Retired from a Gas Utility Company / A Barbershopper and Miamian for
26 Years / Music Medic; Mike performed in High School musicals. He loves the Close Harmonies
and not having to know how to play any instruments. He says: “Barbershop is for you if you love
Close Harmony and enjoy the company of Fellow Singers.”
